Founded more than 20 years ago, our mission remains to facilitate a great digital environment for learning and working. No IT infrastructure or project is too small, large or complex for our highly experienced team.
emPSN originally formed as embc, one of England’s original ten Regional Broadband Consortia (RBCs) that were set up in 2000 as part of a government initiative to roll out cost-effective and coordinated broadband connectivity to schools in their region. There was little to no broadband infrastructure in the East Midlands at that time and we were therefore able to build a dedicated network right across the region.
Over the last two decades, we have continued to deliver for the public good. Unlike private companies, we don’t operate on significant profit margins but focus on re-investing to improve the quality of our services.
We have helped hundreds of schools and provided robust connections for blue light sites and critical council services.
From our offices in Northamptonshire, we oversee a number of suppliers who are responsible for our full spectrum of services. emPSN complies with government standards for procurement and technology which means all our providers have been through a stringent public sector procurement process.
This allows us to offer you a choice of buying options, providing you with a tailored solution that meets your digital strategy for the future. All the services you take via emPSN are issued on just one bill.
As part of our membership to the NEN (The National Education Network), our service is routed via Jisc’s Joint Academic Network (JANET) which provides you with a suite of security benefits including the freedom to connect to major online providers such as Google, Microsoft, BBC and NetFlix without going onto the public internet to reach these sites.
The emPSN networkAs well as having access to a wealth of network knowledge, we partner with organisations that provide your school community with an added layer of benefits. Every school in our network is given a unique login for Listening Books, an online audiobook library for SEND pupils to enjoy fiction and non-fiction titles in school or at home.
Benefits for schoolsWe often get asked similar questions by many of our schools and customers so we have put together some useful FAQ’s as a bit of a myth busting exercise
