This page is a resource for questions you may have regarding emPSN’s service closure

As you have now been informed, emPSN will cease trading from October 31st 2026. This includes connectivity and related services that we provide via our partners such as filtering, monitoring and VoIP.

Our team are here to support you if you have any questions related to your service with us and we will keep this page updated with frequent questions and answers throughout the duration of this period of transition.

If you would like to speak to us about something that has not been mentioned here, please contact us via email at support@empsn.org.uk

No, if you are in contract up to or beyond October 2026, you are still expected to pay until 31st October 2026.

We are providing you with a year’s notice to enable you sufficient time to source your services to another supplier, before the end of October 2026.

We typically recommend that you start this process no less than 6 months before your changeover date. If you secure a supplier well in advance, you can always delay the installation until it’s required.

We would also recommend a period of 2 weeks of old and new circuits running concurrently to ensure a transition that’s as smooth as possible.

You retain ownership of your router. This means you can either dispose of it or ask your new connectivity provider if you are able to use it with their service.

If your hardware is owned by anyone other than emPSN or Nasstar (previously known as KCOM), such as BT, this can either stay in situ or at a suitable time, be disposed of through your normal WEEE process.

Yes, if they are willing to allow you to do this. Please note a factory reset will be required (please ask your IT support to do this for you).

Potentially, yes, but it depends on the type of circuit your school currently has. Novation of a working line takeover is only possible if the service is SOGEA or FTTP.

No, because this is from an emPSN RIPE allocation.

Yes, if your service is provided directly or indirectly through emPSN. We urge you to check who is supplying all your existing services.

Please note, if you are an existing Netsweeper customer (filtering and/or monitoring), their team are available to support you with a service transition. Please see the next Q&A below for details.

Yes you can continue to use Netsweeper for your filtering and monitoring needs, the only change is that these services will no longer be provided via emPSN.

If you are an existing Netsweeper customer, we strongly encourage you to contact our key representative, Tenzin Yeshe (details below), as soon as possible. Tenzin will walk you through your options and help ensure a seamless transition with no interruption to your service.

We cannot explicitly recommend a supplier to your school, but we have listed a number of credible alternatives in our letter to you.

We recommend referring to the latest DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education guidelines for expected standards for connectivity, filtering and monitoring:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/meeting-digital-and-technology-standards-in-schools-and-colleges/filtering-and-monitoring-standards-for-schools-and-colleges

You have two options:

1) In line with our terms & conditions, you need to provide 2 months’ notice prior to the end of contract if you want us to cease services and connectivity. If you do not provide us with notice, your contract will automatically roll over until 31st October 2026 when you must have an alternative supplier in place.

2) If you need more time, you may extend your contract until 31st October 2026.

Due to contractual obligations with suppliers, we are seeking to novate your contract to a new provider. Over the coming months, we will provide an update on this process.

Our support team will remain in place until the end of October 2026 and can be contacted in the normal way via email – support@empsn.org.uk
