During the summer holiday period we are carrying out service improvement work to assign and configure a dedicated public IP addresses for all schools’ customers on the network – 1 address per school unique to that site. This does not change what schools can access on the internet this only impacts the IP address which is visible to sites and services.
For most schools this will have no functional impact to day to day use. Where this will have an impact is where you are using services configured for your school’s address, such as an internet finance or payroll system.
School with existing dedicated addresses, have not been changed.
This change has been made for a number of reasons to improve the integrity of operations and to help with security within schools. You now have public addressing dedicated to your services, this address along with its IP reputation can now be managed more easily by you and the support teams.
Your Public IP address can be checked through access to www.myipaddress.com – please turn off any proxy before accessing to see your sites address. If you are still unsure the Change Control team will be able to confirm the addressing dedicated to your school.
Changes are being applied on the 8th, 9th, 21st, 22nd, 27th and 28th August – Secondary schools will be updated outside of the exams period.
Should you require further information on this update, or what it means to your school please get in touch on support@empsn.org.uk thank you.
