Capita SIMS ID Service Updates November 2017
Some highlights of the ongoing development and improvements to the SIMS ID solution.
O365 Message Encryption
Customer who have O365 can have their tenancy enable so that staff mail that has a given key word in the subject e.g. “encrypt-me” or “secure-mail”, will be sent encrypted. This can be activated through a service request to the desk currently but a self-service setting in SIMS ID is being developed. A big thank you to Derbyshire County Council staff for assistance in developing this service.
Skype Clients are now supported
Microsoft have made changes to their Office 365 solution. Previously only Skype Web clients were supported in the SIMS ID Managed tenancies. Now the tenancy can be activated to allow Skype Clients to be used also. There are some prerequisites around the client version and correct DNS entries being made. Activation of this is by service request to the service desk. To help schools manage who can use skype SIMS ID supports multiple Licence configuration and management. This is a free service that can be activated upon request, that will help schools comply with some elements of GDPR. A self-service activation method for this service is being developed. This service can also allow schools to populate SIMS Timetables into Office365 Calendars; Make use of Microsoft Teams (formerly MS Classroom) https://id.sims.co.uk/support/wiki/41/microsoft-school-data-sync ; improve management by auto populating groups based on MIS Classes, Groups, houses etc.
