Googles Latest Digital Citizenship Program

Over the last few weeks, we have talked extensively about the importance and value in e-safety, but as discussed before, encouraging young people to become informed digital citizens is the better approach. By encouraging young people in schools and at home to be aware of their behaviour and personality online, they can become well informed digital citizens that can navigate the online world.

#BeInternetAwesome

Tools such as the new Be Internet Awesome program by Google, encourage responsible behaviour online. Many years ago, the advice was to just block or put restrictions on internet usage for young people, but as our lives become more digitally powered we need to do more than just restricting access for young people.

Google Digital Citizenship

It’s encouraging to see more programs such as this coming forward, so that young people can learn the skills needed to lead digital lives. Googles program does more than just create awareness around the different issues young people might face, but also how to overcome them.

The first level is based in “Kind Kingdom”, where the user spreads positive influence and defeats cyber bullies by reporting them. It’s a fun and interactive game that demonstrates the most effective ways with dealing with online problems.

At emPSN, we understand the importance of e-safety and are always looking at new ways in which we can engage our schools with it. Google’s Be Internet Awesome program is just one of the many educational tools that we have seen recently and we look forward to sharing more with you over the next few months.
